The U.S. Army RDECOM Contracting Center, Natick Division, intends to award a firm fixed price purchase order on a sole source basis to Vusix Corporation for a specialized computer monitor that can be mounted on protective goggles with full 3D and adjustable viewing angles. This particular model is uniquely suited for the Army's needs due to its proprietary features and ability to provide consistent visualization for software evaluation across multiple computer systems with VGA output. No solicitation is being issued because this product is exclusively available from Vusix, and the Army requires hardware uniformity to ensure consistent results in their multi-lane lab environment. The agency conducted market research comparing known models and determined that this device's fully positionable mount made it the only acceptable option. They do not anticipate any future acquisition that would require competition. Interested parties were invited to express interest by a specific deadline in 2010, though no alternatives to this sole source procurement were identified. The contracting office is located in Natick, Massachusetts, with Steven Streeter named as the contact specialist for further information.
