The California Department of Conservation, Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) has issued a permit approval for Patriot Resources, LLC to execute a well sidetrack project in the Tapo, North Oil Field located in Ventura County. The scope of work involves plugging and abandoning the current wellbore, specifically wellbore 0411100241-01, by plugging the lower half to isolate Zone III and IV. Following this, the well will be sidetracked at a depth of 2425 feet. The new well will be drilled to the same depth and completed within the same geological zone as the existing well, ensuring that production capacity and purpose remain unchanged without any alterations to current facilities. CalGEM has determined that the project is exempt from full environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This determination is based on several categorical exemptions, including Class 1 for existing facilities, Class 2 for replacement or reconstruction, and Class 4 for minor alterations to land. These classifications support the finding that the drilling operations will result in negligible or no permanent effects on the land, water, air, or vegetation, and that there will be no significant environmental impact.
