The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development, and Engineering Command is conducting market research to identify commercial sources for improved Army Combat Uniform fabrics. Using MIL-DTL-44436A Class 8 as a baseline, the government seeks materials that offer superior breaking strength, tearing strength, and abrasion resistance while maintaining soldier comfort. Required features include wrinkle-free properties and the ability to be printed with the Universal Camouflage Pattern, with stain resistance being a desired attribute. Interested firms must respond by February 15, 2008, providing cost information, physical test reports, and optional 15-yard samples. Due to Berry Amendment restrictions, companies producing materials offshore must include a transition plan for moving production to the United States. Submissions should also specify whether the firm qualifies as a small business under SIC Code 8405, which is defined as having 500 employees or fewer.
