The Air Force Heritage Coat Program is soliciting responses to a Request for Information (RFI) by August 22, 2006, for the development of a new Service Dress coat that reflects the Air Force's history while addressing future needs. The program seeks professional uniform designs in the form of drawings or sketches and storyboards that convey a dignified, proud, and military appearance. Designs should be submitted for both male and female versions and may incorporate various fabrics, colors, and trims beyond the current blue polyester/wool blend. Historical inspiration includes past uniforms worn by figures such as Gen Billy Mitchell and Gen Hap Arnold, alongside the existing service dress coat. The development of the coat intends to uphold the Air Force's "Heritage to Horizon" motto and foster a strong sense of tradition and honor among personnel. Respondents are invited to participate in a tentative Industry Day scheduled for August 29, 2006, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, where multiple designs can be presented. Following this event and contingent upon funding, a Request for Proposal (RFP) process may be initiated to create prototypes and test garments. The final design approval lies with the Air Force Chief of Staff through the Air Force Uniform Board. All design development resources are at the discretion of the designers, who are encouraged to be innovative and thorough in their submissions. No compensation will be provided for responses to this RFI. Further details will be communicated to participating parties after submission.
