In the lab of Genetics (LG); at the National Institute of Aging, this equipment purchase will assist IRP investigators in aging research for the maintenance of genome integrity through the regulation of telomeres and chromosome stability. This work requires the detailed and high-resolution analysis of chromosomes and telomeres in hundreds of metaphase nuclei of cells. The routine procedures, such as finding metaphase nuclei, doing color karyotyping, telomere fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), are labor intensive. The proposed system will dramatically accelerate the research programs by automating these routine procedures. The purchase of this type system will benefit at least the following four research groups at the National Institute of Aging/IRP: Minoru Ko (LG), Weidong Wang (LG), Nan-Ping Weng (LI), and Yie Liu (LMG).
