The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to issue a sole source purchase order to the University of Connecticut Health Center's Center for Indoor Environments and Health to continue an investigation into indoor environmental health hazards. This study involves a pre- and post-remediation survey of a large office building in Hartford that has experienced an outbreak of respiratory disease alongside a history of water damage. The University of Connecticut is uniquely positioned to conduct this evaluation as it holds exclusive access to clinical records of over 150 affected workers involved in a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) study, offering valuable insights into building-related respiratory illnesses linked to damp and moldy environments. The procurement is justified under government regulations allowing sole source awards when only one responsible source exists that can meet the requirements. This contract will support the ongoing NIOSH investigation and contribute to broader research on respiratory health impacts from indoor environmental factors. Although the notice invites interested parties to express interest, it is not a solicitation for competitive proposals, and the decision to open competition remains at the government’s discretion. Questions regarding the contract can be directed to CDC representatives as specified in the notice.
