NASA is preparing to launch the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) into a 50 km lunar polar orbit in late 2008, with a mission duration of approximately one year. The primary goal of this mission is to gather essential orbital data about the Moon’s properties and environment. There is potential to include additional small cameras, each weighing less than 5 kilograms and equipped with a spacewire interface consistent with European Space Agency specifications. These cameras would be used for educational and public outreach purposes, providing opportunities to capture video and still imagery of the spacecraft, the Moon, and Earth. The anticipated video duration is up to 10 minutes per session, with a frame rate of up to 30 frames per second. The imagery could feature parts of the LRO spacecraft, such as solar panels and antennas, and depending on orientation, views of the Earth and Moon. NASA’s Lunar Precursor Robotic Program Office is seeking innovative commercial concepts for distributing these images to the public at low or no cost, as well as recommendations on the types of images to capture and how the content could be used to promote public awareness of NASA’s Vision for Space Exploration. This Request for Information is purely for planning purposes; no contract awards or binding agreements will result. Respondents should be aware that any submitted information may be shared with government and non-government reviewers, including contractors, and that submitting responses implies consent to this sharing. Responses were requested by March 30, 2007, and inquiries can be directed to the designated NASA contact at the Marshall Space Flight Center.

Full Description

NASA will be flying the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) in late 2008. This mission is scheduled for a 50 km lunar polar orbit with a nominal 1 year life. Its primary mission will be to obtain critical orbital data on the properties and environment of the Moon. Given the current resource picture, there will be an opportunity to fly additional cameras (under 5 kilograms with a spacewire interface per European Space Agency specification) on this orbiter for education and public outreach purposes. If this occurs, it would provide opportunities for on-board video and/or still photos to be taken that capture images of the spacecraft, the Moon, and/or the Earth. It is anticipated that up to 10 minutes of video at a time may be obtained for later downlink. The frame rate is variable up to approximately 30 frames per second. The field of view will include portions of the LRO spacecraft such as solar panels and the high gain antenna, and depending on spacecraft orientation, the Earth and/or the Moon. The Lunar Precursor Robotic Program (LPRP) Office is requesting concepts for innovative commercial methods for making these images available to the public at no or low cost. As part of this Request for Information (RFI), recommendations are also sought for the content of images to be captured, as well as details about how this imagery could be used to enhance public recognition of NASA's Vision for Space Exploration. Any information obtained as a result of this RFI is intended to be used by the Government on a non-attribution basis for program planning and acquisition strategy development. By submitting information in response to this RFI submitters of such information imply consent to the release and dissemination of the information to any Government or non-Government entity to which NASA releases and disseminates the information for review. Review of the submitted information may be performed by multi-disciplined review teams. Moreover, review teams may include third parties, such as contractor personnel who support NASA. As such, to the extent that any information submitted in response to this RFI is marked as or construed to be proprietary or business-sensitive, submitters are hereby notified (a) about the potentiality that such information may be disclosed to third parties and (b) that submission of information in response to this RFI constitutes consent to such handling and disclosure of submitted information. This RFI is being used to obtain information for planning purposes only and the Government does not presently intend to award a contract at this time. As stipulated in FAR 15.201(e), responses to this notice are not considered offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. This RFI is subject to FAR 52.215-3. Responses to this RFI should be provided on or before March 30, 2007. Responses should be addressed to Mark E. Nall at VP41, Marshall Space Flight Center, NASA. Enabling Technology for Future Missions
Solicitation # 9F063-20260085
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is soliciting proposals under the Space Technology Development Program (STDP) to develop and advance one to three priority technologies intended to reduce technical uncertainties for future Canadian space missions. This fixed-price procurement focuses on increasing Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) in accordance with CSA-ST-GDL-0001 Revision A guidelines. The identified priority technologies include a lightweight athermal reflecting telescope for CubeSats, readout electronics for large mosaic focal plane arrays, and technologies for the Ground Snow Mass Mission, with maximum funding per contract ranging from 1 million to 2 million Canadian dollars. The project is expected to span 16 months, structured around five key milestones: a kick-off meeting, preliminary design review, detailed design review and work authorization meeting, test readiness review, and a final review meeting. Selection is based on the highest combined rating of technical merit (60%) and price (40%), with additional points available for Indigenous considerations. The contract requires strict adherence to security protocols, including Protected B and Reliability Status, and mandates the use of the Information Sharing with External Partners portal for sensitive data transfers. Performance is subject to rigorous inspection and acceptance processes for both hardware and software, including a 90-day warranty period for custom software.

Expression of interest: Small-satellite missions sandpit
Solicitation # 206083
UK Research and Innovation is seeking expressions of interest for a small-satellite missions sandpit designed to bring together approximately 30 researchers and innovators from diverse disciplines. The goal is to co-develop ambitious, challenge-led small-satellite mission concepts focusing on innovative sensors, data streams, and cross-sector enabling technologies to enhance sovereign capability, address national security and societal challenges, and support economic growth. The activity consists of six sessions held between January 26 and February 11, 2027, utilizing a combination of online sessions and a two-day residential event. Total program funding is listed at 1,870,000, with the objective of developing concepts for pump-priming research grants in 2027/2028. Selection of participants is based on core assessment questions focusing on skills and potential contributions rather than track record, with additional consideration given to geographic diversity across all UK regions. Applicants must apply through an Expression of Interest stage, and invited applicants will use the Resume for Research and Innovation format. Mandatory attendance at all sessions is required, with travel and subsistence costs reimbursed and accommodation provided for overnight stays. The program is managed by the UKRI Space Programme team, with the response deadline for the solicitation set for November 25, 2026.

Commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Destination Contract (CLDC) Technical Library
Solicitation # 80JSC025_CLDC_TECH_LIBRARY
The Commercial Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Destination Contract (CLDC) Technical Library, managed by the NASA Johnson Space Center, serves as a centralized repository of technical standards, plans, and guidelines for potential offerors. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to support the development of private LEO space destinations and supporting systems as NASA prepares for the retirement of the International Space Station. The library provides a series of data drops containing both controlled and uncontrolled technical data, including standards for docking systems, payload interfaces, and crew health operations. It also outlines specific NASA center capabilities and high-value engineering products available to industry partners to reduce technical and schedule risks. It is important to note that this activity is a special notice and does not constitute a Request for Proposals, Invitation for Bid, or Request for Quotation. No proposals are to be submitted in response to this notice, and it does not represent a commitment by the government to enter into a contract. Access to export-controlled content requires the submission of a specific request form and compliance with U.S. export regulations, including the implementation of Technology Transfer Control Plans and Non-Disclosure Agreements for foreign nationals. The library is intended to keep industry updated on current NASA technical standards in anticipation of future FAR-based acquisitions.
