The Department of Defense's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input on the potential applications and development of microfabricated three-dimensional magnetic coils and inductor arrays. Building on advancements demonstrated in previous programs like DARPA's 3-D Micro Electromagnetic Radio Frequencies Systems (3-D MERFS), which successfully fabricated complex 3-D microstructures, DARPA is exploring how similar fabrication technologies could be used to create high-performance micro-magnetic devices. These devices could have broad use in fields such as gas or chemical analysis, miniaturized microscopy, RF signal processing, acoustic or seismic sensing, and power control systems. Respondents are asked to describe their proposed devices, estimate performance metrics such as size, weight, power consumption, and reliability relative to existing technology, identify technical challenges, and outline approaches to overcoming these obstacles. This RFI does not guarantee a formal solicitation, but DARPA anticipates potentially issuing one in early 2008 for the design and demonstration of novel Micro Magnetic Systems. Submissions must be concise, limited to five pages, and include both proprietary and non-proprietary cover pages with clear identification of any confidential information. Responses are due by October 15, 2007, and should be submitted electronically via email or on CD-ROM to the designated program manager, Dr. John Evans, with specific instructions regarding submission format and labeling. The agency also reserves the right to consult external experts under confidentiality agreements to assist in technical evaluation. This initiative aims to gather innovative concepts to inform future government investment in micro-magnetic system technologies.

Full Description

Description Recent work in three-dimensional micro fabrication, such as work performed on DARPA's 3-D Micro Electromagnetic Radio Frequencies Systems (3-D MERFS) program, has demonstrated the ability to create complex 3-D micro-scale structures. Though the 3-D MERFS program was targeted at creating air-core rectangular coaxial transmission line structures, the same fabrication technology can be used to monolithically fabricate complex arrays of high-performance inductors and/or magnetic coils. Similarly, other programs and organizations are developing 3-D micro fabrication technologies that offer the geometric flexibility need to create arrays of inductors and magnetic coils. This is a Request for Information (RFI) by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for suggestions as to how the ability to create micro fabricated coils and magnetic structures could best serve the needs of the Department. Potential applications might include gas or chemical analysis systems, miniaturized microscopy systems, analog RF signal processing systems, acoustic and/or seismic sensors, high voltage or high power control systems, etc. DARPA solicits potential performers to submit ideas related to this topic for use by the government in formulating a formal Micro-Magnetic Systems (MMS) solicitation. DARPA requests that submittals briefly and clearly describe the potential device that could be fabricated; estimate the anticipated performance of the device in terms of performance, size, weight, power, and reliability relative to existing systems; describe technical challenges that must be overcome to successfully realize said device; and outline the performers approach to overcoming those challenges. This request for information does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that a formal solicitation will be issued. No entitlement to payment of direct or indirect costs or charges by the Government will arise as a result of the submission of responder's information. Should the Government wish to issue a formal solicitation, it is estimated that this would occur approximately during the first quarter of calendar year 2008 for design and demonstration of novel Micro Magnetic Systems (MMS). Responses should be limited to five pages for any given concept. Any proprietary concepts or information should be clearly identified as such. Input on technical aspects of the responses may be solicited by DARPA from non-Government consultants/experts who are bound by appropriate non-disclosure requirements. For all RFI responses, an additional, non-proprietary cover page is also requested identifying your company name, technical point of contact and contact information. RFI responses should be received no later than COB October 15, 2007. RFI Responses should be submitted in a commonly used electronic format and may be e-mailed or mailed on a CD-ROM to: Dr. John Evans, Program Manager Ref: SN08-01 DARPA/MTO 3701 N Fairfax Dr. Arlington, VA 22203 John.Evans@darpa.mil Responders are requested to include SN07-59 in the subject line of any email correspondence. Original Point of Contact Dr. John Evans, DARPA Program Manager, Fax 703+248-1808, Email John.Evans@darpa.mil

Intrinsic Market Resilience (IMR)
Solicitation # DARPA-PS-26-138
The Intrinsic Market Resilience (IMR) program, solicited by the DARPA Information Processing Techniques Office under DARPA-PS-26-138, is a 32-month initiative spanning Fiscal Years 2027 through 2029. The program aims to protect essential U.S. economic sectors from systemic risks and adversarial attacks targeting the public interfaces of modern electronic markets. By combining Large Language Model (LLM) automation with rigorous mathematical modeling, IMR seeks to develop tools that automatically translate informal regulatory and technical specifications into formal models to identify hidden weaknesses and recommend structural repairs. The work is divided into three technical areas: TA1 focuses on modeling and analysis, TA2 on resiliency and repair, and TA3 on establishing test and evaluation frameworks to validate the outputs of the first two areas. This procurement is conducted as an Other Transaction (OT) for Prototype Agreement under 10 U.S.C. 4022, with anticipated award ranges of 4.5 to 5 million dollars for TA1, 2.5 to 3 million dollars for TA2, and 5 to 6.5 million dollars for TA3. Eligible participants include small businesses, nonprofit research institutions, and nontraditional defense contractors. Proposers must adhere to strict security requirements, including CMMC Level 1 compliance at award and CMMC Level 2 status or a detailed compliance plan. All information must be handled according to NIST 800-171 and DFARS 252.204-7012 standards. Evaluation is based on technical approach, qualifications, technology transition viability, price, and security, with a particular emphasis on innovation and the feasibility of the proposed technical solution.
