The Transportation Security Administration plans to negotiate a sole source contract with American Science and Engineering to continue support for the Next Generation Compton Imager (NexGenCI) project. This contract will have a base period of nine months, with options to extend for an additional 15 months. The NexGenCI initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of existing x-ray backscatter imaging systems currently deployed by the TSA, improving threat detection while maintaining privacy protections. American Science and Engineering is one of only two known vendors producing these specialized x-ray backscatter machines, which makes them uniquely qualified for this work. The contract titled "A -- Project CAMDEN II" falls under NAICS code 334517 and is managed by the Department of Homeland Security’s Contracting and Procurement office in Springfield, VA. The proposed award is a follow-on effort to previous single source procurements for similar technology and supports the TSA’s mission to secure transportation infrastructure. The project reflects a focus on advancing bulk detection portals to ensure effective, privacy-conscious security screening at various checkpoints.
