The Naval Research Laboratory's Southeast Science Center plans to negotiate a contract exclusively with Nanosonic, Incorporated, based in Blacksburg, Virginia, under Other Than Full and Open Competition due to the unique capabilities Nanosonic possesses. The contract focuses on researching and developing novel processing techniques to fabricate frequency-dependent dielectric and magnetic materials aimed at enhancing low observable (LO) applications. The primary goal centers on controlling radio frequency (RF) signatures through the use of layered combinations of polymers, metallic, semiconductor, and magnetic materials to manipulate electromagnetic properties effectively. Nanosonic is uniquely positioned as the only known organization capable of conducting material research through electrostatic self-assembly processing, which aligns with NRL's ongoing research needs. This specialized approach is critical for advancing the NRL's objectives in stealth technology. The contract, identified by solicitation number N00173-05-R-JR11, was posted in July 2005, with Patricia A Lewis serving as the contracting officer to oversee negotiations. Additional contracting opportunities and information are available through the NRL’s dedicated contracts website.
