The Air Force Research Laboratory's Munitions Directorate is seeking white papers through a Request for Information (RFI) focused on the development of compact, rugged antenna technologies designed to enable real-time fuze status transmission during underground target penetration. The primary emphasis is on innovative 3-D and 2-D fractal antenna designs that can be integrated into realizable geometries such as cones, hemispheres, and cylinders, operating within the 50-500 MHz frequency range. Additionally, there is interest in very compact radio frequency oscillators and transmitters capable of outputting more than 100 watts, all of which must withstand intense shock loads and other harsh environmental conditions. This RFI is intended solely for information gathering and planning purposes and does not constitute a formal solicitation or commitment from the government. Interested parties are encouraged to submit preliminary design concepts and white papers showcasing their technologies that meet the stringent durability and operational requirements outlined. The technical point of contact is Dr. Alex Cash at AFRL/MNMI, located at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, who can be reached by phone or email for further inquiries. The RFI was posted in April 2002 under the reference number MNK-02-0012.

Full Description

Request for information (RFI): The Munitions Directorate of the Air Force Research Lab (www.afrl.af.mil) develops air-delivered munitions systems and related components and technologies. We are interested in receiving white papers on compact and rugged antenna technologies for real-time fuze status transmissions during underground target penetration. Of particular interest are preliminary designs of compact 3-D and 2-D fractal antennas in realizable, integrable geometries such as cones, hemispheres and cylinders. These would function somewhere in the frequency regime of 50-500MHz. Also of interest are designs of very compact RF oscillators and transmitters in excess of 100 watts. All of these components would require operation in harsh environments to include intense shock loads. The technical point of contact for this RFI is: Dr. Alex Cash, +1 (555) 000-0000/0391, contact@example.gov; AFRL/MNMI, 101 W. Eglin Blvd., Eglin AFB, FL 32542-6810. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes only, and neither constitutes a formal Request for Proposals (RFP) nor a commitment by the Government.
