The contract involves the National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, negotiating an extension of 22 months for the United States Renal Data System Coordinating Center (USRDS-CC) contract with the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation. This extension will shift the contract’s end date from December 15, 2004, to October 29, 2006, aiming to align the completion timelines of all USRDS contracts, including the Coordination Center and the four Special Studies Centers. The Coordinating Center’s responsibilities include obtaining national and regional samples for the Comprehensive Dialysis Study (CDS) and other specialized data studies, as well as providing baseline data from the USRDS database. The extension is essential because the Comprehensive Dialysis Study is a collaborative effort requiring synchronized performance periods among all involved USRDS centers. This ensures coordinated progress and completion of the research activities. The modification will be negotiated under a sole source justification, as only the Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation can fulfill the specific agency requirements. This reflects the necessity of maintaining consistency and continuity in data collection and study execution across the related contracts within the USRDS program.
