AI Contract Overview
Parabilis Space Technologies is developing a novel acoustic propellant manipulation device under solicitation Z5.06 for the NASA SBIR/STTR Program. The technology utilizes acoustic waves and radiation pressure to manage fluid and gas phase separation within bladderless propellant tanks, ensuring that pneumatic pressurant gas can be vented without liquid propellant during refueling. Following a successful Phase I involving computational analysis and prototype design, the project is moving into Phase II to focus on detailed analysis, fabrication of test articles, and validation through microgravity experiments to prepare the system for future flight adaptation in Phase III. This innovation is designed for broad application in cryogenic fluid management, propellant estimation, and settling for both NASA and non-NASA missions, including the Gateway lunar space station and iSAM missions. The potential market extends to the Department of Defense and major aerospace firms such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman, as well as various SmallSat providers. The contract is designated as a Total Small Business Set-Aside and is managed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Full Description
Benefits: The projected market size for this device is substantial. This technology is applicable to refueling operations, cryogenic fluid management, propellant estimation, and propellant settling for both NASA and non-NASA missions. It is directly applicable to iSAM missions including OSAM. The proposed technology will be a significant boost to architectures for NASA’s lunar space station (Gateway). Efforts related to Gateway will likely leverage the use of advanced refuellable architectures g to minimize cost and maximize performance. The proposed technology applies to any mission that uses a bladderless liquid propellant tank. Besides NASA, customers will include government entities such as the DOD, larger companies such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Maxar. Mid-size and smaller customers will include Astranis, Capella, Hera, LeoStella, Terran, York, and the SmallSat division of Sierra Space.
