AI Contract Overview
The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), in partnership with the Department of City Planning and NYC Public Schools, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking innovative ideas for the adaptive reuse of the City-owned Vernon Building located at 44-36 Vernon Boulevard in Long Island City, Queens. This six-story warehouse, encompassing nearly 700,000 square feet along the East River waterfront, is currently occupied by NYC Public Schools. The RFI invites responses from a diverse range of teams, including both non-profit and for-profit organizations, to propose plans that could transform all or part of the building into a vibrant space supporting a mix of office, cultural, industrial, retail, and community-oriented uses. The primary goal is to gather insights that will inform future redevelopment strategies, with no immediate team selection resulting from this process. Respondents are encouraged to participate in informational sessions and site visits scheduled for May 21 and May 30, 2025, respectively, with RSVP deadlines in mid-May. The City emphasizes its commitment to equitable contracting practices, encouraging certified Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBE) to apply. Questions regarding the RFI can be submitted until late July 2025, with responses and clarifications posted subsequently. Detailed submission instructions are available online, with proposals due by August 27, 2025, to be uploaded electronically as a .zip file. This initiative aims to leverage community input and innovative ideas to shape a future use for the Vernon Building that aligns with the priorities of Long Island City residents and stakeholders.
