UC San Diego Health proposes to construct a new approximately 300-bed hospital on its Hillcrest campus to replace the current facility, originally constructed in 1963 as the county hospital. The University proposes to construct the Advanced Work Phase (AWP) of the Hillcrest Medical Center Renewal (HMCR) project. Approval of the AWP portion of the project would allow for demolition of existing buildings, site and utilities preparation, and possible procurement of long-lead steel, elevator, and foundation items that are not dependent on the final design of the building. Pursuant to CEQA, an agency must evaluate the whole of a project; therefore, the Addendum addresses the entire HMCR project, inclusive of the AWP.
