Airport Traffic Control Tower Replacement at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport

The City of Fresno is undertaking the replacement and relocation of the Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) and associated infrastructure at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport. The project scope includes the construction of a new ATCT facility, the installation of new equipment and utility services, and the reconstruction of employee parking with new security fencing. The existing ATCT facility will be demolished only after the new tower is fully operational. This project is being executed under the oversight of the City of Fresno as the lead agency, with the FAA serving as the federal lead, ensuring compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Environmental reviews and site assessments have identified significant but unavoidable impacts to historical resources, as the existing tower is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Resources. To address these and other environmental concerns, a Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program has been established. Technical assessments have also focused on air quality emissions, with construction scheduled to begin on January 7, 2027. The project was officially approved on December 18, 2025, following a comprehensive environmental impact report and a public review period.
