Alta Mesa Road Culvert Replacement

The Sacramento County Department of Transportation (SacDOT) is planning the in-kind replacement of a collapsed culvert on Alta Mesa Road in unincorporated Sacramento County, California. The project scope involves the removal of existing asphalt concrete aggregate base, fill material, and the damaged culvert, followed by the installation of a new 40-foot, 36-inch corrugated metal pipe culvert at a maximum depth of 10 feet. To manage water during construction, two temporary cofferdams will be installed upstream and downstream to divert water before being removed upon project completion. This project is classified as a forecast and is categorically exempt from further environmental review under CEQA Guidelines Section 15302 and Public Resources Code Section 21084, as it is a replacement of existing infrastructure within the current right-of-way without expanding capacity. While no vegetation removal is planned, SacDOT will conduct preconstruction bird nesting surveys if work occurs during nesting season. The project is managed by Environmental Coordinator Julie Newton and Applicant Tim Stephens, with performance located approximately 0.23 miles south of the Boessow Road intersection. No specific contract value, performance schedule, or formal evaluation criteria have been established at this stage.
