AmCo Stewardship Project - SNC 1370

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy is amending Project 1370, the AmCo Stewardship Project, to collaborate with the Amador Fire Safe Council and the Bureau of Land Management to conduct fuels reduction treatments on approximately 70 acres of BLM-managed land. The work will involve hand crews and mechanical equipment such as track chippers and masticators to remove brush and small-diameter conifers, with a maximum diameter at breast height of 11 inches, and hardwoods under 4 inches, though larger hardwoods may be removed if spacing requirements demand it. Treatment spacing will average about 30 feet between boles and brush, with denser clustering allowed in isolated patches. This effort is an extension of two existing BLM-sponsored projects—the Pioneer Park & Pioneer Creek Fuels Reduction Project and the Thompson Ridge Fuels Reduction Project—and has been reviewed and approved under separate NEPA determinations with decision records signed in December 2025 and April 2026, ensuring full compliance with environmental review requirements. Funding for the work will be drawn from SNC grant resources allocated under the amended project. The project is managed by the Sierra Nevada Conservancy’s Field Operations & Grants Division, with Andy Fristensky serving as the primary point of contact, and the Amador Fire Safe Council’s District Manager, Amanda Watson, as a key partner. Activities will take place in California, specifically within the BLM parcels targeted for fuels reduction.
