AmCo Stewardship Project - SNC 1370

The AmCo Stewardship Project (SNC 1370), specifically Amendment No. 2, is a partnership between the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, the Amador Fire Safe Council, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to implement fuels reduction treatments on approximately 70 acres of BLM Mother Lode Field Office property in Amador County, California. The project focuses on reducing wildfire risk across four BLM parcels located northeast of Pioneer along Buckhorn Ridge Road and South View Drive, as well as along Thompson Ridge west of Stage Road. Hand crews and mechanical operators using track chippers and masticators will remove brush and small diameter trees, with conifers limited to a maximum of 11 inches diameter at breast height and a preference for removing hardwoods under 4 inches, though larger hardwoods may be removed to maintain an average spacing of 30 feet between boles and brush. The project is executed under NAICS code 115310 and is governed by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), adhering to the Pioneer Park and Pioneer Creek and Thompson Ridge fuels reduction decision records signed in December 2025 and April 2026, respectively. Additionally, the project is statutorily exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) under Public Resources Code section 4799.05. Administrative oversight is provided by Andy Fristensky of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and Amanda Watson of the Amador Fire Safe Council, with the formal amendment signed on July 31, 2026.
