American Dark Fiber, in coordination with the California Department of Technology, is implementing the American Dark Fiber MEN 162 Broadband project in Mendocino County, California. This initiative aims to establish middle-mile broadband infrastructure to connect to a third-party operated last-mile network, enhancing statewide internet access as mandated by California Senate Bill 156. The project is managed by Caltrans District 1 in Eureka and is statutorily exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under PRC 21080.51, with environmental reviews confirming no significant impacts. The scope of work involves the installation of approximately 749 feet of underground high-density polyethylene conduit and fiber-optic cable within the Caltrans right-of-way along State Route 162, specifically between post miles 28.809 and 28.815. Key deliverables include the placement of temporary traffic control devices and signage, as well as the installation of two underground vaults measuring 36 inches wide by 60 inches long by 24 inches deep.
