The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command is organizing an industry day on May 4, 2004, at the Community Activities Center on Fort Detrick, Maryland, aimed at advancing battlefield anesthesia equipment suitable for austere military environments. This event serves as a hands-on exposition and evaluation where manufacturers of anesthesia equipment such as machines, ventilators, vaporizers, medical air compressors, and monitoring devices can demonstrate their products in a realistic setting. Attendees will include military anesthesia providers, biomedical technicians, logisticians, and medical research personnel, allowing for a thorough assessment of current and emerging anesthesia technologies by subject matter experts. The goal is to evaluate equipment performance by operating devices connected to simulated lungs, with manufacturers responsible for providing necessary compressed gases for demonstrations. The event will begin with vendor setup from 7am to 9am, followed by the exhibition open from 9am to 4pm. Special considerations include the availability of only 110-volt 60Hz electrical power, with advance arrangements required for any additional needs. Representatives from key organizations such as the Joint Readiness Clinical Advisory Board, USAMMDA, and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences will participate. Registration and further information can be obtained by contacting designated points-of-contact. The event underscores the Army’s commitment to collaboration with industry partners to enhance combat casualty care through innovative anesthesia solutions tailored for military use.
