The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) is seeking proposals from qualified research firms and consultants to conduct a comprehensive environmental scan of Alberta’s engineering and geoscience professions covering the period from 2026 to 2036. This study aims to inform APEGA’s regulatory responsibilities, strategic and workforce planning, and government relations by identifying key trends influencing professional engineers, geoscientists, permit-holding companies, and the broader labour market in Alberta. The initial phase will include detailed labour-market analysis, demand and supply modeling, occupational and industry-driver analysis, and the assessment of factors such as artificial intelligence, automation, demographic shifts, migration, retirement patterns, educational enrollment, and economic conditions impacting these professions. Deliverables for this contract include a thorough labour-market environmental scan, an internal summary report, editable visual data presentations, a prioritization workshop, and a multi-year roadmap for guiding future research efforts. APEGA will provide access to aggregated, anonymized registrant data post-contract award, subject to confidentiality agreements, and encourages the use of supplementary data from sources like Statistics Canada and government labour forecasts. Proposals should demonstrate expertise in labour-market and economic research, workforce forecasting, occupational analysis, and data visualization with an understanding of regulated professions and Alberta’s industry trends. Optional additional tasks, such as deep dives into AI, demographic modeling, economic scenarios, and comparative analyses, may be considered but require separate approval and are not guaranteed. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 27, 2026.

Mandatory deliverables include a labour-market environmental scan, a concise internal summary for APEGA, editable charts and tables, a prioritization session, and a multi-year research roadmap to guide possible future research. APEGA may provide aggregated, de-identified registrant data after contract award and execution of appropriate confidentiality and data-sharing agreements. Vendors may also use external data sources, such as Statistics Canada, Government of Alberta labour-market forecasts, industry economic outlooks, and post-secondary enrolment and graduation data. Qualified proponents should demonstrate experience in labour-market research, workforce forecasting, economic analysis, occupational analysis, data modelling, research methodology, data visualization, regulated professions, and Alberta industry trends. Optional additional work may be considered at APEGA’s discretion and may include AI deep dives, demographic modelling, post-secondary pipeline research, economic scenario modelling, comparative provincial analysis, or dashboards. Optional additional work is not guaranteed and will be subject to separate approval.
