The project was executed using non-competitive procedures to maintain essential research capabilities provided by a nonprofit institution or federally funded research center. The scope of work involves applying molecular genetics tools to identify taxonomy at the subspecies level, collecting skin swabs to test for emerging pathogens such as iridoviruses, and analyzing disease patterns and population statistics. To achieve these goals, the project requires a multidisciplinary team including amphibian research biologists, lab specialists, and a university laboratory with expertise in landscape genetics and salamander ecology. The work also incorporates the use of GPS coordinates and Geospatial Information System capabilities to track movement directions and the spread of disease. Fort Huachuca is responsible for coordinating the application of landscape genetics and assisting in the overall execution of the research tasks.
