The National Park Service seeks professional historical research to accomplish a historical resource study (HRS) for Jewel Cave Natioal Monument to increase its uncerstanding of the history and extant cultural resources of the Jewel Cave National Monument. It includes collection,evaluation, synthesis, and presentation of data and research findings on the history themes and historic resources of the park area. The focus of this history project shall be research in primary and secondary sources on the major historical themes of the park area to complete a multi-chapter narrative history and context for evaluating the significance of the different types of historic resources. The HRS shall require documentary research and some field investigations to determine an d describe the integrity, authenticity, associative values and significance of resources. The research project shall include documentary research at local, regional, and national repositories as necessary and some oral history interviews related to specific properties as needing evaluation for eleigibility to the National Register. The HRS shall include a cultural resources base mape tht depicts all known historic sites and structures, cultural landscapes, long distance trails and roads and battlefields, archeological sites and ethnographic resources. Extant cultural resources ahll be correlated both to the narrative history and identified on cultural resource base maps. The HRS shall be completed in sixteen (16) months from the time of award. The Solicitation will be issued O/A August 11, 2003 and close O/A September 10, 2003. Submissions shall be in accordance with the Request for Proposal. The solicitation will be available only at (http://ideasec.nbc.gov) NO HARD COPIES WILL BE MAILED.
