Benicia SRA Day-Use Accessibility Improvements

Improve access to existing day use facilities at Benicia State Recreation Area to bring the area trails into compliance with California State Parks accessibility guidelines and associated legal mandates. Work will: Botanical Garden Day-Use Area: ? Sawcut and remove existing accessible parking stall and transition space asphalt pavement at entrance to botanical garden. Reconstruct accessible parking and transition space with concrete pavement. ? Remove existing asphalt paved accessible parking stall at day-use side of parking lot. Reconstruct accessible parking space with concrete pavement. ? Remove grills and picnic tables. Leave with park for re-use or dispose of properly. ? Remove existing and relocate water station and upgrade to accessible guidelines. New water station will include 4’ x 6’ concrete pad and associated drain. Trench to extend water line from existing to proposed location will be required with excavation of maximum depth of 3’. ? Remove 6’ of asphalt curb at day-use accessible parking and construct 4’ x 6’ concrete pad for installation of truncated domes. ? Construct day-use area and route with associated retaining walls, wood turnpike edging, and split rail fencing. Excavation for rock retaining wall footing will be less than 18” depth. o The day-use area location will be site located as far away from the existing trees as possible but will be limited based on topography and the maximum height of rock retaining walls at 4’. The maximum excavation in this area is 63 CY (12’ x 56’ x 2.5’). o Day-use constructed surfaces will be a compacted aggregate. Fill material in areas of fill will be excavated soils and crushed aggregate. ? Install new group barbeque grill and 5 picnic tables. ? General excavation where not noted elsewhere will be minimal 6” to 9” with 36” at signpost and grill posts. Benicia Bay Trailhead Day-Use Area: ? Remove grills and picnic tables. Leave with park for re-use or dispose of properly. ? Construct day-use area and route with associated retaining walls, wood turnpike edging, and split rail fencing. Excavation for rock retaining wall footing will be less than 18” depth. o Day-use constructed surfaces will be a compacted aggregate surface. Fill material in areas of fill will be excavated soils and crushed aggregate. o Install new, 5 group barbeque grills and 14 picnic tables. General excavation where not noted elsewhere will be minimal 6” to 9” with 36” at signpost and grill posts. Dillon Point Parking Area: Remove existing asphalt pavement. Construct accessible parking space with concrete pavement, crosswalk, and curb ramp.
