The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), under PMA-226 Adversary and Specialized Aircraft, is seeking a system for single-seat F-5N and dual-seat F-5F aircraft that enables aircrew to set customizable total fuel level alerts, known as Bingo or Joker fuel bugs. This system monitors fuel levels via capacitance signals from two fuel probes and displays dual pointers representing left and right fuel tanks, with increments of 100 pounds ranging from zero to 2,500 pounds. The right pointer also accounts for fuel transferred from external tanks to internal tanks. This new Bingo Fuel State Alert system allows for mission-specific fuel alerts to be programmed preflight and activated in flight, improving upon the current setup which only includes a low fuel warning light at 350-410 pounds—a level considered unsafe. The contract, titled "Bingo Fuel State Alert for F-5 Aircraft," is being administered by the Naval Air Warfare Center Air Division, Department of Defense, based in Patuxent River, Maryland, with the work to be performed in St. James, Maryland. It is issued as a sources-sought notice under solicitation number N00421-26-RFPREQ-TPM226-0466, posted on May 22, 2026, with responses due by June 8, 2026. The contract falls under NAICS code 334511 and contact points for this opportunity include James Redding and Catrina Farrell. This effort aims to enhance fuel awareness and safety for F-5 aircraft missions by providing more precise and adaptable fuel alert capabilities.

The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), PMA-226 Adversary and Specialized Aircraft, Integrated Product Team (IPT), is considering procurement of a system or instrument which allows aircrew to configure custom total fuel level alerts (also known as “Bingo” or “Joker” fuel bugs) for use on single-seat F-5N and dual-seat F-5F aircraft. The fuel level is monitored through capacitance signals sent from two fuel probes and displayed with dual pointers (left and right) in increments of 100lbs, ranging from 0 to 2,500 lbs. If carried, external fuel tanks are pumped to internal tanks and represented through the right pointer. This Bingo Fuel State Alert would allow for mission specific fuel level alerts to be entered during preflight and activated during flight. Currently the F-5 fuel system only has a low fuel light that activates when fuel level reaches 350-410lbs of fuel remaining which is an unsafe condition.
