Beaufort County is undertaking a comprehensive upgrade of its athletic facilities, focusing on enhancing two baseball fields to accommodate 6U and 8U players. The project involves maintaining the existing grass outfields while exploring the possibility of installing artificial turf in the infields, contingent on budget constraints. The fencing around these fields will be adjusted, with options to reposition the backstop for better space utilization. Each baseball field will feature four small dugouts and bleachers with sunshades on both sides, complemented by nearby amenities such as water fountains and two to three batting cages. Additionally, a large multipurpose artificial turf field measuring 110 by 60 feet is planned at the rear, equipped with bleachers and sunshades on both sides, along with a concrete wall for lacrosse practice and a 20-foot-high net to safeguard parked vehicles from lacrosse balls. The existing football goal post on this field will be removed. The project also includes the installation of lighting for the volleyball and basketball courts, with new sand added to the volleyball court to improve play conditions. A small covered pavilion with picnic tables will be constructed on-site to provide shaded gathering space. Both driveways and parking lots will be resurfaced with asphalt and properly striped, with careful attention to drainage across all fields and parking areas to prevent water accumulation. Overall, this renovation aims to create a versatile, well-equipped recreational environment, enhancing safety, accessibility, and usability for the community. The contract is valued between $500,000 and $1,500, with a response deadline of December 17, 2024, and is managed by the North Carolina Buncombe County Government.
