Box Canyon Manhole and Road Improvement Project

The Box Canyon Manhole and Road Improvement Project is a critical infrastructure initiative by the City of Thousand Oaks to enhance the reliability and accessibility of its wastewater conveyance system. The project focuses on upgrading the steep, unpaved Box Canyon access road, which is essential for maintenance operations, by paving approximately 260 linear feet with concrete to ensure stable, year-round vehicle access. Alongside this, the project includes installing a new manhole and replacing about ten feet of aging eight-inch asbestos cement wastewater pipe to improve inspection and maintenance capabilities. These upgrades are designed to prolong the service life of the wastewater infrastructure and reduce the risk of system failures. To mitigate stormwater runoff and prevent erosion along the access road, five new 18-inch storm drain pipelines with integrated upstream and downstream headwalls will be installed, along with three additional headwalls for existing culverts. These drainage enhancements are integral to protecting the improved roadway and surrounding terrain from water damage during rain events.
