Solicitation # RFA-CA-28-004
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has issued a Limited Competition Notice of Funding Opportunity (RFA-CA-28-004) to support the continuation of two critical biospecimen banking resources: the National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) Biobanks and the Early-Phase and Experimental Clinical Trials (EET) Biobank. These resources facilitate translational cancer research, biomarker development, and validation by providing essential specimens from NCI-funded clinical trials. The NCI intends to fund approximately six awards for fiscal year 2027, with a total estimated funding of 19 million dollars and a maximum budget of 3 million dollars in direct costs per year for a requested project period of six years. Applications will be evaluated through the NIH peer-review system based on scientific and technical merit, significance, and the adequacy of the institutional environment. Key requirements for applicants include maintaining active registrations in SAM, eRA Commons, and Grants.gov, as well as providing specific documentation regarding the current scale of operations, accomplishments, and standard operating procedures. Awardees must adhere to NCI Best Practices for Biospecimen Resources, federal human subjects regulations under 45 CFR 46, and strict cybersecurity incident reporting protocols, including notification of incidents within 48 hours of discovery. Solicitation # RFA-CA-28-004
The National Cancer Institute is issuing a limited competition Notice of Funding Opportunity, solicitation RFA-CA-28-004, to support the continuation of two critical biospecimen banking resources. These resources include the National Clinical Trials Network Biobanks, which support the NCTN and the Community Oncology Research Program, and the Early-Phase and Experimental Clinical Trials Biospecimen Bank, which supports the ETCTN and other early-phase experimental trials. The primary objective is to maintain national infrastructure for the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of high-quality, clinically annotated human biospecimens to enable translational cancer research, biomarker development, and the study of drug response and resistance. Eligible organizations must submit applications by February 12, 2027, to be considered for funding. All submissions will undergo a standard NIH peer-review process, and only meritorious applications will be selected. These banks are essential for linking biospecimens to clinical outcome data from large multi-site trials and supporting the development of novel cancer therapies through pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analyses.
