Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Request for Information (RFI) - R&D Overt Security Features - FY26

The Department of the Treasury, Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), has issued Request for Information (RFI) 2031ZA26N00006 to identify novel technologies and materials for use as overt, visual authentication security features on future U.S. currency. The objective is to discover counterfeit deterrents that are easy for the general public to authenticate without external devices but are extremely difficult to simulate or duplicate using traditional printing, digital reproduction, or commercially available materials. These features may be integrated into the banknote substrate and inks or applied directly to the note. This RFI is for market research and informational planning purposes only; it is not a formal solicitation, does not constitute a commitment to contract, and will not result in payment for response costs. Interested parties must submit preliminary samples and a brief technical description to the BEP R&D technical lead, Chris Dollberg, by November 15, 2026. Submissions will be evaluated based on their inherent effectiveness as a security feature, durability, environmental acceptability, and compatibility with production and design factors. Respondents are cautioned not to include proprietary or classified information, as the government reserves the right to use non-proprietary technical information in future solicitations.
