Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Request for Information (RFI) - R&D Hidden Machine-Readable Security Features - FY26

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) under the Department of the Treasury has issued Request for Information (RFI) 2031ZA26N00005 to identify novel, emerging technologies and materials for use as hidden machine-readable security features on future U.S. currency. The agency is seeking features that are difficult for subject matter experts to discover, resistant to simulation or duplication, and readable by highly discriminating standalone detection systems. Proposed solutions must be novel and not currently in the public domain or commercial use. Submissions will be evaluated based on their inherent effectiveness as security features, as well as their durability, environmental acceptability, and compatibility with production and design factors. This RFI is for informational planning purposes only and does not constitute a formal solicitation or a commitment to award a contract. Interested parties must submit a brief technical description and preliminary samples to the BEP R&D technical lead in Washington, D.C., with capability statements due via email to the designated points of contact by 2:00 PM Eastern Time on November 15, 2026. The government will not reimburse any costs associated with responding to this notice, and respondents are cautioned not to include proprietary, classified, or sensitive information in their submissions.
