Bureau of Land Management, Arcata Field Office, “Larabee Valley Forest Health & Resiliency Project”

California Forestry and Fire Protection will provide funding to the Bureau of Land Management’s Arcata Field Office to implement forest health and resiliency treatments on up to 889 acres of public land in Humboldt County, specifically on the Butte Creek and Larabee Buttes parcels. The project will involve manual and mechanical thinning, piling of woody debris, and prescribed burning to reduce hazardous fuel loads, lower wildfire risk to nearby communities and natural resources, and promote the recovery of native plant and wildlife species. These activities are designed to enhance the long-term resilience of the forest ecosystem against climate-related stressors and increasing wildfire frequency. The work is being coordinated through a forecasted contract with primary point of contact Shannon Johnson from CAL FIRE and Marissa Vossmer from the BLM, and the project is publicly accessible via the California CEQA Net portal.
