California Vegetation Treatment Program (CalVTP) Update

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is providing funding for the Pescadero Creek County Park Climate and Habitat Resiliency Vegetation Treatment Project. This initiative focuses on ecological restoration across up to 541 acres of State Responsibility Area lands within Pescadero Creek County Park in Loma Mar, California. The primary objectives are to reduce fuel loads, promote watershed and forest health, and demonstrate the efficacy of climate beneficial prescriptions. The scope of work involves manual and mastication treatment activities, which must be consistent with the California Vegetation Treatment Project (CalVTP) Program Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and designed to avoid type conversion in chaparral and coastal sage scrub plant communities per PRC section 4483. The project is managed through a collaboration between CAL FIRE, the San Mateo County Parks Department acting as the lead agency, and the San Mateo Resource Conservation District as the project proponent. Environmental compliance is governed by a Project-Specific Analysis and addendum under the CalVTP Program EIR, with a Notice of Determination issued on August 14, 2025. All activities are subject to the project's Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program to ensure that standard project requirements and mitigation measures are implemented.
