California Vegetation Treatment Program (CalVTP) Update

The California Vegetation Treatment Program has been updated to expand the treatment area by an additional 55 acres, increasing the total project footprint to 1963 acres under the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District’s approval. The newly added parcels are ecologically similar to the original project area, featuring dense young conifer and hardwood stands with small diameter trees under 12 inches, and will undergo the same restoration methods including manual thinning and pruning, pile burning, and prescribed fire to enhance forest health and reduce wildfire risk. The project maintains consistency in treatment objectives and ecological context across the expanded area, ensuring uniformity in implementation and environmental outcomes. The update is formally documented under the project-specific analysis PSA 2024-17 and is managed by the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District in California, with technical oversight provided by the Forestry Program Manager, Doug Turk. While the solicitation is listed as a forecast, the necessary approvals have already been secured to proceed with the expanded treatment area, and activities are expected to follow the established protocols outlined in the original project plan. All work will be conducted within the designated place of performance in Mendocino County, with the primary point of contact available for inquiries regarding project implementation and compliance.
