Callan and Meath Crossing Enhancements

The City of South San Francisco is soliciting informal bids for a $20,000 fixed-price contract to construct crossing enhancements at the intersection of Callan and Meath, aimed at improving safety and accessibility for all road users. The scope includes demolition of existing features, grading and subgrade preparation, installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps, new pavement markings, signage, and restoration of disturbed areas to original or better condition. All work must adhere to the City’s Construction Standards, Caltrans Standard Specifications and Plans, and applicable federal and state accessibility requirements. The project is site-specific, with construction limited to a 100-calendar-day window and work hours restricted to 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless prior written approval is obtained. Contractors must hold a valid Class A or Class C-8 license, be represented on-site by a superintendent at all times, and attend a mandatory pre-construction conference. Bid submissions must be sent to the City Clerk’s Office by the deadline of May 25, 2026, via in-person delivery, fax, overnight carrier, or certified mail, with no electronic portal specified. Contractors are required to provide proof of general liability insurance with minimum limits of $2 million per occurrence and $5 million annual aggregate, naming the City as an additional insured, along with workers’ compensation coverage. Prevailing wage rates as set by San Mateo County must be posted on-site, and certified payroll records must be submitted weekly. The City is responsible for utility relocation under Government Code §4215, and contractors must promptly report any hazardous material discoveries or utility conflicts, which may trigger change orders.
