The interior passage shall have a height of no less than 79 inches, passage width of no less than 28 inches. The WTMD shall have an option for being ADA compliant, requiring a passage width of no less than 32 inches. 1.2 Optical Sensors: The WTMD shall have a minimum of 2 optical sensors used for counting of transits, calculating alarm rate, and triggering random alarms as programmed by the user. 1.3 Power: For safety reasons, the WTMD portal itself shall NOT be directly connected to 110Vac power. The WTMD shall be supplied by no more than 30Vdc, via external power adapter. 1.4 UL Listing: It is important to insure that any electrical equipment installed in a public environment is safe from electrical shock or burn, mechanical hazards, spread of fire, overheating, and effects of fluids. To be protected against this liability, the equipment must be compliant with the most up-to-date and appropriate National Standard. To provide assurance of protection against hazards to the operator and surrounding area, the WTMD shall be certified compliant with UL Standard for Safety Requirements for Electrical Equipment for Measurement, Control, and Laboratory Use Part 1: General Requirements (ANSI/UL 61010-1:2012 Ed. 3 +R: 15 July 2015). Certification shall be issued by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory. 1.5 Signaling: The WTMD shall have 4 vertical display bars (2 on both entry and exit sides), with each individual display bar capable of providing alarm zones, power status, and pacing lights as a stop/go indicator. The WTMD shall be equipped with an audible alarm signal having at least 40 distinctly different tones (for use of more than one detector in the same location), with adjustments for duration and volume. 1.6 Zone Indication: The WTMD shall be capable of accurately pinpointing vertical height of alarms with LED zone indication. The WTMD shall also be capable of accurately pinpointing horizontal position of alarms, with left, right, and center indication. In total, the WTMD shall have a minimum of 60 different zones for alarm indication. 1.7 Security: A mechanical locking cover shall protect the WTMDs local programing access keys, and the WTMD shall have a programing access password made up of at least 6 alphanumeric characters. The WTMD shall have a minimum of 2 independent levels of programing (user and super user), each one protected by a password. 1.8 Programing: Changes to volume control, security level, and other important functions shall be accomplishable by a person that has received no prior training on programing for the WTMD. Programing adjustments shall be possible to perform locally without using of the control panel, or remote control. Use of chip cards, or memory cards, shall be available for performing immediate programing adjustments. 1.9 Installation: The programing procedure for complete installation shall be accomplishable by a person that has received no prior training on programing for the WTMD. The WTMD shall provide a fully automated function that ensures all necessary steps are carried out to allow proper operation of the detector. A single automated function shall guide the installer through a selection of the security level, automated frequency selection, and adjustment of the alarm volume, duration, and tone. 1.10 Electrical Interference Compensation: On occasion, sources of electrical interference may be present in the environment that can effect performance of WTMDs. The WTMD shall have a built-in function that initiates an automated evaluation and compensation of environmental electrical interferences. The detector shall be capable of automatically adjusting settings, when necessary, to minimize the effect of electrical interferences without needing manual corrections. 1.11 Wind / Vibration Compensation: When operated in an environment subjected to moderate/strong winds or vibrations, WTMDs can experience large amounts of false alarms. The WTMD shall have an automated function to compensate for the presence of wind and minimize the effect on the metal detector signal, without compromising detection capability. 1.12 Synchronization: The WTMD shall be capable of operating within a distance of no more than 2 from another detector. This shall be done automatically, without the need of a cable connection or wireless module between the detectors. 1.13 Periodic Test: The WTMD shall have an automated procedure for periodically checking the WTMD antenna and signals. The procedure shall be activated without requiring access to the programing and the test result shall be displayed on the control unit. 1.14 Self-Diagnostics: The WTMD shall have integrated firmware that constantly monitors the equipment to ensure performance is maintained, giving indication when there is a malfunction or fault. 1.15 ADA Width Calibration: When an increase in the WTMD portal width is required to meet ADA compliance, it shall be possible to substitute a standard width crossbar with a wider width crossbar and maintain full detection capabilities by automatically adjusting the internal sensitivity without needing manual intervention. 1.16 Automated Rebar Correction: The presence of rebar or other metal reinforcements under the transit path of the WTMD can cause an amplification of the signal at floor level, causing an increase in nuisance alarms for shoes containing metal. The WTMD shall have an automated feature to measure and adjust for rebar or other metal reinforcements that may be present in the floor. This adjustment shall not affect the minimum detection requirement, while allowing the WTMD to reach a nuisance alarm rate at the floor level similar to a location without the presence of rebar or other metal reinforcements in the floor.
