City of Lawndale General Plan Update

The City of Lawndale is pursuing a General Plan Amendment to expand its Sphere of Influence planning area to include portions of the Alondra Park and El Camino Village areas within unincorporated Los Angeles County. This project serves as an addendum to the City's General Plan 2045 Comprehensive Update and the Final Environmental Impact Report that was certified in December 2023. The primary objective is to implement minor technical changes and additions to the existing General Plan to facilitate the boundary expansion. Because the project is limited to expanding a boundary line within an existing urbanized area, it is intended to avoid creating significant new environmental impacts. Under the California Environmental Quality Act, staff prepared Addendum #1 to the Final Environmental Impact Report to ensure compliance. The analysis confirms that the proposed expansion does not result in more severe environmental impacts than those previously evaluated, thereby negating the need for a supplemental or subsequent environmental impact report. The project is supported by specific CEQA exemptions and follows the land use and environmental frameworks established in the prior General Plan 2045 update. Administrative oversight for this forecast is managed by the City of Lawndale's Community Development Department.
