Clearwater National Forest - Road 108 Drainage Improvement

The USDA Forest Service awarded contract AG-0276-S-09-0009 for drainage improvement and reconstruction work along five miles of Road 108 within the Powell Ranger District of the Clearwater National Forest in Idaho. Located approximately eight miles from the Powell Ranger Station, the project spans from the junction of Highway 12 to the point where the road leaves the creek. The scope of work includes road reconditioning through reshaping inslopes and outslopes, scarifying existing roadways to a six-inch depth, and installing rolling dips and relief culverts. Specific technical requirements involve the installation of corrugated metal pipes ranging from 18 to 48 inches, including one culvert in a small fish-bearing tributary, as well as the placement of riprap and the installation of Type 1 Barricade gates. The project was estimated between 100,000 and 250,000 dollars, with a mandatory completion date of October 30, 2010. Technical specifications mandate strict adherence to material controls, environmental protection measures including a Hazardous Spill Plan, and specific timing restrictions for work during the month of August. The contract is supported by detailed engineering drawings for rock buttresses, pipe gate construction, and stream grade details to ensure proper water discharge and site decommissioning.
