Cliffside Salado Creek Greenway Access Nature Trail Project

The City of Shavano Park is accepting bids from qualified contractors to provide to furnish all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, transportation, and incidentals necessary to construct a 400 linear foot concrete nature trail connecting Cliffside Drive to the Salado Creek Greenway. Plans and bid docs can be found on CivCast ( https://www.civcastusa.com/ ) or City website ( https://www.shavanopark.org/bids ). Project will be Tax Exempt. For this project the City will use Forest Service Trail Accessibility Guidelines (FSTAG). FSTAG provides guidance for maximizing the accessibility of trails while protecting the unique characteristics of the natural setting. Although the guidelines are not legally enforceable outside of the National Forest System, they may be used by other entities to define best practices for recreation areas. See Scope of Services II for FSTAG guidelines for this project. The City of Shavano Park will consider the firm qualification, adherence to the technical requirements and proposal pricing of bidders in making the award. City of Shavano Park reserves the right to reject any and all bids, to waive informalities and technicalities, to reject portions of the bids and to award contracts in a manner consistent with the City and laws governing the State of Texas. SCOPE OF SERVICES REQUIRED The selected contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, and incidentals necessary to complete the following improvements: Concrete Nature Trail Construct approximately 400 linear feet of concrete trail, trail width shall be 6 feet, see trail map and specifications in Exhibit A. 4-inch-thick concrete with #4 Rebar reinforcement and 2-inch minimum compacted base with 6”x8” turndown beam at edge of sidewalk and strengthened expansion joints – see all details for concrete construction in Exhibit A. Perform all clearing, grading, excavation, and restoration – 3 feet clearing on both side of the concrete trail (12-foot clearing width in total). Install compacted base material and concrete in accordance with specifications in Exhibit A For this project the City will use Forest Service Trail Accessibility Guidelines (FSTAG). FSTAG provides guidance for maximizing the accessibility of trails while protecting the unique characteristics of the natural setting. The following FSTAG guidelines will be used for this project for grades and slopes: Trail running slope (grade) of up to 1:20 (5%) is allowed for any distance. Trail running slope (grade) of up to 1:12 (8.3%) is allowed for any distance less than 200 feet. Trail running slope (grade) of any distance shall not be steeper than 1:8 (12%). No more than 30% of the total trail length may exceed a running slope (grade) of 1:12 (8.3%) The cross slope shall not exceed 1:20 (5 percent). Where the surface is paved or is elevated above the natural ground, the cross slope shall not be steeper than 1:48 (2 percent). Tie concrete trail into existing Cliffside Trail concrete curb and existing City of San Antonio Salado Creek Greenway without damaging either existing concrete work. Final alignment to be coordinated with awarded contractor, prior to construction, to limit removal of existing trees. All large rocks/boulders within construction zone to be removed and can be saved on site. Any existing tree branches overhanging proposed trail to be pruned to allow for a minimum of 8'-0" clearance. Reference tree pruning detail in Exhibit A. City will mulch tree cuttings. Provide integral light-brown natural looking concrete coloring – see Exhibit A for a rendering. Provide rock salt finish and broom finish final surface texturing of the concrete to reduce slippage risk.
