Coalinga State Hospital, Remediate Fire-stopping associated with the Unified Hospital Communications System

The project at Coalinga State Hospital involves repairing and replacing compromised or non-compliant firestopping and UL assemblies around penetrations created by the Unified Hospital Communications system speakers, with the goal of restoring the original fire-resistance ratings of walls, floors, and other fire-resistant assemblies as specified in the original building plans or current code requirements. This work will address all affected penetrations throughout eight housing and dining buildings on the campus, including tracing the Cat6 cable runs back to their source in the intermediate distribution frames and correcting any firestopping deficiencies found along those pathways. The objective is to ensure full compliance with fire safety standards by re-establishing the appropriate hourly fire ratings at every penetration point, thereby maintaining the integrity of the building’s passive fire protection system. All work plans will be subject to review and approval by the State Fire Marshal, who will also issue permits for the project and conduct final inspections to certify compliance. The scope is strictly limited to firestopping and UL assembly restoration related to the UHC speaker system and associated cabling, with no expansion beyond the identified penetrations and their corresponding fire-rated assemblies. The project is located in Coalinga, California, with primary coordination handled by the California State Hospitals, Department of, and points of contact include Gonzalo Caceres and Chris Vancil for administrative and construction oversight respectively.
