The Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division Advanced Propulsor Management Office is hosting an Industry Day to provide Department of Defense contractors with an opportunity to review and discuss design drawings and manufacturing plans for the production of the Bearing Support Structure (BSS) for the COLUMBIA Class Submarine. This event, originally scheduled for November 2, 2018, has been postponed due to the anticipated impact of Hurricane Florence, with a new date to be announced after the start of the new fiscal year. The BSS is a highly engineered, complex propulsor component, and attendees will be able to examine the sizing and weight details of associated submarine parts, helping contractors assess their manufacturing capabilities in relation to Navy requirements. Participation requires prior submission of a DD Form 2345 (Military Critical Technical Data Agreement) and SECNAV Form 5512-1 or equivalent DoD-issued credentials to ensure compliance with the distribution restrictions on sensitive technical data. Contractors interested in attending the event must submit all required documentation electronically by specified deadlines, with new participants required to provide their paperwork no later than October 24, 2018. The office managing the event emphasizes that attendance does not create a contractual obligation and that no reimbursements will be provided for participation or preparatory efforts. Additional information, including a final agenda, will be shared with authorized participants closer to the event date. The objectives of this Industry Day are aligned with the office’s mission to identify qualified sources for advanced propulsor manufacturing and to develop acquisition strategies that deliver Navy propulsor components efficiently and cost-effectively. The point of contact for further inquiries includes representatives Abeer J. Ameer and Frank Jurado based in Bethesda, Maryland.
