The contract for providing Ethernet services between the Iowa City VA Medical Center and leased space on Mormon Trek Boulevard has been cancelled, with the initially scheduled solicitation postponed indefinitely. The VA intends to reissue the solicitation in the future and encourages interested parties to monitor the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) website and contact the contracting officer for updates. The Ethernet service was to deliver native point-to-point layer two connectivity at speeds ranging from 10 to 100 megabits per second, using RJ45 copper connections, and specifically required fiber-optic cable (Qmoe) without routing or use of other protocols like ATM. This requirement was set aside exclusively for small businesses under the NAICS code 517110, reflecting telecommunication services. The service would connect the main VA Medical Center at 601 Highway 6 West with the Business Office Annex located at 2650 Mormon Trek, Suite 100, both in Iowa City, Iowa. Although the solicitation was cancelled, the VA reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling this need and plans to repost the opportunity as soon as practical.
