This sole-source, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract awarded to Qorvo, Inc. for the Naval Research Laboratory involves the design and fabrication of a specialized solid-state dual-band amplifier. The device must amplify radio frequency signals over a 4-40 GHz range, featuring a single RF input from a fiberoptic photoreceiver and two RF outputs. To meet strict physical constraints, the amplifier must fit within a tapered cylinder 2.4 inches in diameter and no more than 8.85 inches in length. The estimated procurement value is 2,800,000 dollars, with Qorvo selected as the sole source due to its patented Spatium technology. The project follows a 24-month period of performance divided into three primary phases. The Preliminary Design Review, due within 12 months, requires the delivery of a prototype high-band amplifier and a dual-band driver. The Critical Design Review, due within 18 months, requires a prototype dual-band amplifier capable of operating across both high and low bands. The final phase concludes with the delivery of three production-ready dual-band amplifiers and a comprehensive final report. Throughout the contract, the contractor must provide monthly progress reports and detailed measured data for MMIC amplifiers, with performance testing conducted at 10 MHz intervals and across various atmospheric pressures from sea level up to 20,000 feet.
