DESIGN, FABRICATION AND INSTALLATION OF PALM OIL HOT SPOT INTERPRETIVE STATION PROJECT

The Toronto Zoo has issued a request for proposals for the design, fabrication, and installation of the Palm Oil Hot Spot Interpretive Station located within the Indomalaya Pavilion. This project utilizes a CCDC 14-2013 Design-Build Stipulated Price Contract and aims to create a durable, interactive exhibit that educates visitors on the conservation impacts of palm oil plantations. The scope of work encompasses comprehensive engineering reviews, 3D design, graphic artwork, the procurement and integration of multimedia hardware, and final installation. The project is subject to a five-year warranty and must comply with the Ontario Building Code and specific material requirements for high-humidity environments. The contract is open to Canadian suppliers and follows a three-stage evaluation process consisting of mandatory requirement reviews, rated technical criteria, and price evaluation, with the highest total score determining the award. Key administrative requirements include the provision of performance and labour and materials payment bonds from sureties registered in Ontario, as well as comprehensive insurance coverage including five million dollars in general liability. While the project originally targeted a December 2026 completion, the scheduled completion date has been extended to March 31, 2027. Payment is managed through a designated Payment Certifier with standard 30-day terms.
