San Mateo County requires a contractor to provide electronics collection and recycling services across approximately 65 facilities. The services include both scheduled and on-call pickups, although not all facilities necessarily need regular collection. This contract stems from the County’s 2017 Responsible Recycling of Electronic Waste Ordinance, which mandates that all electronics recyclers must hold certification from an approved third-party organization to ensure responsible disposal practices. Currently, the accepted certifications include the e-Stewards Initiative and R2 Solutions, both of which emphasize environmentally responsible recycling standards verified through rigorous, multi-stakeholder processes. The solicitation for this contract, titled "Electronics Collection and Recycling Services for San Mateo County Facilities," was posted by the County’s Sustainability Office in Redwood City, California, with a deadline for responses set for mid-February 2026. The contractor will be required to collect surplus electronic equipment generated by the County’s operations and deliver it only to certified recyclers in compliance with County regulations. Primary and secondary points of contact are provided for interested parties to coordinate and seek further information related to the solicitation.
