The Department of Defense, specifically the AFLCMC Pzio at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, awarded a contract for emergency Centinel Spine ACDF surgery supplies under solicitation FA860120Q0047. The procurement, valued at an estimated 35,889.68 dollars, was designated as a single source award to Beacon Point Associates to provide specialized 3D printed titanium implants and Stalif C ABO screws for a procedure scheduled for January 29, 2020. These specific medical devices were mandated by the performing surgeon to ensure the best patient outcome, as the titanium construction and integrated compressive lag fixation offer superior motion orientation and stability compared to plastic alternatives. The selected implants feature a no-profile design that protects surrounding vascular structures without the need for additional plates, thereby sparing more tissue during insertion. Additionally, the lordotic design supports increased spinal curvature and more natural sagittal alignment. This procurement was deemed critical to avoid the substantial duplication of costs that would have occurred if the surgery had to be performed off-base due to the unavailability of these specific technical requirements.

Full Description

The Government requires Centinel Spine's implants and supplies for an upcoming procedure to be performed at WPAFB's MTF on 29 January 2020. The performing surgeon has determined that Centinel Spine's 3D printed titanium implants are in the best interest of the patient. Beacon Point Associates is the only known source to provide the items required. The Stalif C ABO Screw is made with Titanium compared to plastic having better orientation of motion to include axial rotation, flexion extension and lateral bending. The Stalif screw has an integrated compressive lag fixation which allows implant immobilization with integrated self tapping cancellous lag screws utilizing "Anti Back-Out(ABO) technology." The No-profile design allows the device to sit within the confines of the disc space protecting the surrounding vascular structures to require no additional plates. The products required spare more tissue with no additional hardware needed for insertion. Centinel Spine's lordotic design allows for increased curvature to the spine and establishes a more natural correction giving a greater opportunity for sagittal allignment. If these items are not used the surgery would have to occur off base at a substantial duplication of cost.
