The California Department of Toxic Substances Control has issued an Emergency Permit to Air Liquide U.S. LP (Balazas Labs) for the management and stabilization of hazardous waste at their facility located at 46409 Landing Parkway, Fremont, California. This permit, effective from September 23, 2025, to November 22, 2025, authorizes the chemical stabilization of one 4-liter container and one 1-liter container of Tetrahydrofuran to prevent potential fire or explosion caused by peroxide formation. The process involves a controlled reaction with a chemical solution to reduce the ignitable and reactive characteristics of the waste prior to its transport to an authorized disposal facility. The treatment must be conducted within a designated exclusion zone, with access strictly limited to technicians from Clean Harbors. All activities must adhere to established standards and California Code of Regulations Title 22. Following the expiration of the permit, Air Liquide U.S. LP is required to submit a final report within 10 business days. This report must be signed in accordance with Title 22, CCR Sec. 66270.11(d) and include certification that all generated waste has been properly managed and the treatment area has been cleared of all residual hazardous waste.
