The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), pursuant to authority granted under California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 22, Division 4.5, Chapter 20, Sec. 66270.61, has issued an Emergency Permit to EMD Millipore Sigma Company, (EPA ID# CAR000301093) to treat hazardous waste through a controlled reaction with chemical solutions. Specifically, three (3) 500-milliliter containers of Ethyl Ether; one (1) 1-liter container of Ethyl Vinyl Ether; one (1) 1-liter container and one (1) 2-liter container of Tetrahydrofuran; one (1) 100-milliliter container of Cyclopentyl Methyl Ether; one (1) 100-milliliter container of Acetaldehyde; seven (7) 4-liter containers, eight (8) 1-liter container, two (2) 500-milliliter containers, and sixteen (16) 5-milliliter containers of Styrene; and one (1) 3-kilogram container, two (2) 500-gram containers, and twenty (20) 100-gram containers of Acrylic Acid must be stabilized prior to transport to an authorized hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facility.
These chemicals are currently being stored at EMD Millipore Sigma Company located at 8511 West Riggin Avenue, Visalia, California 93291. DTSC has determined as a safety precaution to prevent an accident or severe injury, an Emergency Permit should be issued for Clean Harbors Environmental Services (Clean Harbors) to chemically stabilize the hazardous waste prior to storage and eventual transportation off-site.
