The New York State Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP) has awarded a contract to the Ad Council to implement the End Family Fire (EFF) public awareness campaign across all counties in New York State. The campaign's primary goal is to educate gun owners about the importance of secure firearm storage to prevent suicides, homicides, and accidental shootings. EFF is distinguished by its non-judgmental approach, focusing solely on promoting safe storage practices without addressing gun ownership itself. This initiative aligns with legislation A814/S746, which mandates a statewide public awareness campaign on firearm safety by July 2025. The contract, set to run from July 1, 2025, through December 31, 2026, is a sole-source award to the Ad Council, recognized as the only organization capable of delivering this large-scale, national-level campaign on this specific topic. The project is based in Albany, NY, with an estimated value between $500,000 and $2 million, and aims to significantly raise awareness about firearm safety throughout the state.

The New York State Office of Gun Violence Prevention (OGVP) will be procuring services from the Ad Council to bring the End Family Fire (EFF) public awareness campaign on secure gun storage to New York State. EFF aims to increase awareness of the potential dangers of having an unsecured firearm in the home and encourages gun owners to improve their gun storage behaviors. EFF promotes safe gun storage practices for gun owners in order to prevent suicide, homicide, and unintentional shootings. End Family Fire is a unique public education campaign that speaks directly to gun owners about the importance of secure firearm storage. There is no other public education campaign on this topic of End Family Fire’s scale in the country. It is non-judgmental; it is not about gun ownership but instead singularly focused on promoting secure firearm storage.
