This contract award, issued by the Department of Defense Strategic Systems Programs, involves the exercise of Option Item 0021 under solicitation N00030R0043. The scope of work focuses on the disassembly and disposal of first, second, and third stage motors for Trident I (C4) and Trident II (D5) systems. This action was negotiated under the authority of 10 U.S.C 2304(c)(1) as part of the broader agreement N00030-16-C-0043. The government determined that exercising this FY18 option was the most advantageous approach based on a price analysis escalating from FY17 rates. Due to the unpredictable nature of the work, the inability to forecast the precise methods of performance, and fluctuating costs, a fixed price contract was deemed inappropriate for these specific requirements. The contract is categorized under NAICS code 541330 and is managed out of the Washington Navy Yard.

The exercise of this option provides for the disassembly and disposal of Trident I (C4) and Trident II (D5) first, second, and third stage motors. This priced option was part of N00030-16-C-0043, which was negotiated and issued under the authority of 10 U.S.C 2304(c)(1). A simple price analysis which escalates the FY17 option price shows that exercising the FY18 option is considered the most advantageous method of fulfilling the Government's need. Several constraints prohibited the use of a fixed price contract. Namely, the Government cannot establish in advance or accurately forecast the following: The exact nature and extent of the work covered by this contract; The precise method of performing the work; and The cost of performing the work.
