Osteoarthritis is a common joint condition where people with overweight often experience more symptoms. A healthy lifestyle can help reduce these, but advice from doctors rarely leads to lasting behavior change. This project investigates how immersive experiences (IX) can motivate patients through teachable moments: sudden moments when someone truly feels and understands the consequences of unhealthy behavior, becoming more open to change. IX could create a teachable moment if it has not occurred, or strengthen an existing moment by making concrete goals and positive scenarios tangible. A consortium of university, hospital, and industry co-designs ethically responsible IX for osteoarthritis patients.
